Last Post for the Year ...

Ngā mihi mahana mo te wā Kirihimete me te Tau Hou

Season's greetings for Christmas and the New Year.

Sadly, this is our last post for the school year.  It has been a fabulous year filled with fun and learning.  What a wonderful bunch of kids we had in B5 this year, it will be sad to see them move on but exciting to see them go into Year 3 and continue to flourish.

Here's a happy B5 Christmas song for you from our last music lesson of the year with Mrs Gain.  We wish you all a safe and happy holiday.  Thank you for following our Super-Duper blog this year.

Arohanui,

Mrs P & B5

Santa's Little Helpers...

Last week we did lots of work about reindeers!  We learnt all of the reindeers names (well, not all of them ... just 9: Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Rudolph).  This week we have been learning about elves.  Santa has lots of little elves who help him throughout the year to get ready for Christmas and bring joy to people all over the world.

We found out from the Kriss Kringle website, that elves have all sorts of important jobs and a very interesting history.  You can read about it here.

We wrote our own applications to become one of Santa's elves.  He has present wrappers, treat makers, toy makers and reindeer caretakers.  Today we have started stories about 'A Day in the Life of an Elf'.  It is fun pretending to be elves.

We have been counting down to Christmas.  Today there are 15 sleeps to go...

Junior Fun Day...

Today we had our end of year junior fun day.   We had a great time trying a whole range of activities including Kelly Sports relays and skill activities, face painting, entertainment from Twinkletoes the Fairy, a scavenger hunt, sports fun, a play in the adventure playground before lunch and a refreshing iceblock.

We started off the day with some Christmas crafts and a book read to us by Santa...
Twinkletoes the Fairy captivates the kids...
Morning tea on the field after a scavenger hunt and Twinkletoes the Fairy...
Fun in the playground after some face painting...
Super-duper B5 enjoying our fun day outside...
Games and sports skills with Kelly Sports...
Showtime!
Our day was rounded off with a show by the Little Dog Barking Theatre Company.  The show was called "Let's Make a Puppet".  You can find out more about the show here.

What a fabulous day!

Principal's Award...

Today at our Junior Assembly Mrs Henderson came along to present the Principal's Awards for Term 4.

This award recognises excellence and effort at school and demonstration of all of our school values. For example, always trying our best, showing respect to others, showing resilience when things get hard, taking responsibility for our things, giving things a go even when we're not sure ...

Today Aaruchya received the Principal's Award - congratulations. We are very proud of you.

Shapes...

We have been learning about shapes for maths ... shape names, shape properties, two-dimensional (2D) shapes, three-dimensional (3D shapes), symmetry, rotation and translation and reflection.  Phew!  There is a lot to learn about shapes.

2D shapes we know:  triangle, circle, square, rectangle, octagon, rectangle, pentagon ... and many more.

3D shapes we know: sphere, prism, pyramid, cone, cylinder, cube ... and many more.

Today we made a rectangle Christmas puzzle using 8 triangle pieces. It was tricky.  We had to turn the triangle (rotation) and flip it over (reflection) and slide it (translation) to get all the pieces to fit nicely together.  You can try the activity here

When something is symmetrical, it means it is the same on each side.  We made butterfly pictures using paint to demonstrate symmetry...

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer...

Today for poetry we learnt the lyrics to 'Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer' and made some of our very own reindeer using our foot and handprints.
